The Arcus Foundation announces two new programs, which include the Social Justice and the Great Apes & Gibbons programs:
Social Justice Program
Several grantees are working to increase the safety of some of the most vulnerable members of the LGBTQ community through direct services and support, policy advocacy, and cross-movement collaboration. These include efforts to assist queer and trans migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border in the face of growing legal challenges, as well as support for trans leaders in Guyana to document and report incidents of anti-trans violence in the country while holding government leaders accountable.
Great Apes & Gibbons Program
Nine of this cohort’s grants were awarded to members of the Ushiriki Consortium, a network of local and international conservation organizations working to protect and preserve apes and their forest habitats in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Funding goes to protect the biological diversity of the region while also improving the livelihoods of communities who depend on the ecosystem for survival.
